Responding to our concerns about plans to sell Cardiff Riding School to developers, Cllr Iona Gordon (Riverside – Labour) has issued the following statement:
“The Council did not invite external interest in the Riding School.
About 18 months ago the Cardiff and Vale College proposed a partnership to extend educational and recreational / therapeutic opportunities, particularly for people with disabilities.
This suggestion was raised at an informal Cabinet Meeting and C&V were asked for more detail.
No detail has come back from Cardiff and Vale College and there is no plan.
All Riding School and local stakeholders would be involved in consultation if a proposal comes forward in the future.
Cardiff Riding School is a wonderful facility and as ward councillor for Riverside and Pontcanna I had a key role in saving it from the threat of closure in the 2014 budget proposal. As a member of the Culture & Economy Scrutiny Member I am always supportive and lobby to promote the Riding School more widely.”
