“We warned Cardiff Council of the serious risk posed by allowing Signature Living to take on the Coal Exchange. Mr Kenwright’s past bankruptcies, financial dealings and disqualifications made him a deeply unsuitable candidate for undertaking a complex restoration of one of Cardiff’s most important historic buildings. This was also made abundantly clear by Stephen Doughty MP, when he spoke out forcefully in 2014. It has been evident for a considerable period of time that much of the essential repair work to the building has not been carried out. This leaves a question mark over the building’s future, as this restoration work is long overdue, and parts of the building remain in poor condition.”
